This one is from Australia Guys Kick is a TV show which started sometime in 2007. Excellent story line and well acted but try as I can, I cannot find a season 2
Layla is university student from a Lebanese-Australian, Muslim family who is engaged to Sharif. Sharif comes across as a traditional man who believes that women have certain roles. Otherwise a pleasant man who is a hit with Layla's family.
All seems to be well till Layla meets and makes friends with Jackie at fencing class. Jackie is comfortable with being a lesbian and does not hide her feelings for Layla. For Layla, her background makes the whole concept of being Lesbian...not an option
Meredith Baxter you all know from Family ties where she played Elyse Keaton and some of you may remember her from other programs and movies like City of Angels or 'Bridget loves Bernie' for the older ones amongst us.
Not of her roles however pointed at the possibility that this lady is a lesbian
I have racked my brains and searched online to find any lesbian roles Meredith may have acted and came up with nothing Please if any of you are aware of any such roles drop me a comment
but you know anyone with a gaydar that is in reasonable working order would have thought.. Hmmm
At least I did so it's not really surprising that Meredith came out as a lesbian recently
And it's great news. great for her. She talks about not being able to have relationships that worked and after 3 marriages and 5 children, she found what worked for her. A loving relationship with another woman
And this got me thinking about the whole labeling thing
You say a person is a lesbian and it immediately, in some quarters conjures up stereotypes that only exist in peoples imaginations. For example to be a lesbian you can only love and be attracted to women
But sometimes it's not about the sex of the person, just about who the person is. That Meredith or you has found love with one woman does not mean that she or you is automatically attracted to all women. Or only women. The landscape of our emotions is so complex
Mischa Barton has had a handful of lesbian roles on tv. Mischa plays Katie in 'Once and Again' Katie is rumoured around school to be a lesbian. Shhe becomes friends with Jessie [played by Rachel Evan Wood].
Jessie and Katie soon become good friends but when Jessie finds out about Katie's sexual preference, she is confused and withdraws from her.
Will Jessie come to terms with the fact that Katie is a lesbian and how will she deal with her own feelings for Katie
I must say I am quite impressed that flash forward have featured a lesbian story quite early on in the series.
And it feels like a real story not the token lesbian side story which again is refreshing. There are a lot of kisses and the interaction between them seems natural.
After the no kiss fiasco in guiding light [really frustrating for Olivia/Natalia fans], it's great that this series has gone the opposite way. well done abc
Janis, an FBI agent, is in the closet mainly because of her job, but you get the impression that she is quite comfortable with her sexuality. Maya is a chef, quite an attractive one who goes to the same martial arts class as Janis
As with most people on flash forward, Maya and Janis have their own flash forwards which contrast quite sharply with their current lives
abc does not seem shy about portraying lesbian women or having there female characters kiss and for this they get a gold star from me
Cashmere mafia is an ABC series that ran in early 2008. It's basically about four glamorous friends and their rather complicated lives.
One of the story lines is the lesbian love interest between Caitlin and Alicia. Alicia is a lesbian who is quite comfortable with her sexual identity. Caitlin on the other hand , although she has always known about her sexuality, has never really confronted it.
The acting was great and the lesbian love story seemed plausible. Makes one wonder why ABC did not renew for a second season
Anyway, here is a clip on Caitlin and Alicia from Cashmere Mafia
Lesbians evrywhere are so exited about the Olivia Natalia story on Guiding Light. Finally another day time show that has helped increase lesbian visibility
Admittedly, they stopped short of a lesbian kiss on scene but hey! take a look at this clip.
Absolutely magic
Thank you Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia
Oh and a heads up.
A lesbian love story involving these two ladies will be starting as a webseries pretty soon
Lisa is popular in the lesbian community for her role in The world unseen and I can't think straight, two excellent lesbian themed movies.
Reading the blog post, what comes true is the bravery with which she is confronting her latest challenge and the courage to speak publicly and with candour about her diagnosis. Her ability to joke about the steroids and her appreciation of her medical team
I for one, am grateful to Lisa Ray for helping increase lesbian visibility
I must have been living under a rock or something but how did I miss one of the most touching lesbian love stories i.e. Olivia and Natalia in Guiding light
Kelly McGillis has finally told us what we already knew. She is a lesbian. According to this article she has finally decided to move on with her life and admit she's a lesbian.
It really is sad that even in the present day and age, there are otherwise intelligent women who truly believe that being a lesbian is 'God's way of punishing her'
All I can say is bravo for coming out of that closet and breathing in some fresh air.
Must say from the first time I saw her in Top Gun, I thought. She's got to be a lesbian
I suppose the fact that Top gun is dubbed one of the most romantic movies ever made is credit to Ms McGillis' acting skills
If you use facebook you'll know that facebook has it's own advertising system. A pay per click system that allows you to create ads and display them on profiles that seem appropriate to your ad.
So an ad was placed for the lesbian movie 'And then came Lola'
The advertisers apparently targeted the profiles of women who stated they are interested in other women and are over 18. Nothing wrong with that.
But for some reason the ad got rejected
The reason given was "The image of this ad is either irrelevant or inappropriate. Per sections 3 and 8 of Facebook's Advertising Guidelines, the image on your ad should be relevant and appropriate to the item being advertised. Make sure your image is directly relevant to what you are advertising. Images that are overly explicit, provocative, or that reveal too much skin are not allowed. Images that may either degrade or idealize any health condition or body type are also not allowed. If you choose to submit this ad again, please use an appropriate image that adheres to all of Facebook's Advertising Guidelines."
The image for the ad?
Obviously this has caused quite an uproar in lesbian communities.
And I am a little puzzled. I have come across a load of adverts on facebook in the lesbian genre
So it makes you wonder. 'Why was this ad rejected?'
Die Leibwächterin, nice gentle love story about Mona dengler, a bodyguard whose client, Johanna Sieber is the chairlady of the EU economic committee. Death threats, drug addiction and a complicated personal history threaten to compromise her ability to protect Johanna. Throw into the mix the attraction between the two leads which may or may not be mutual. You find out :)
Must say it is very good and the acting is excellent
From time to time we come across news concerning the lesbian community that is not about movies or celebrity, but is of such importance that we feel we must share it with you.
Second movie that I could find with the Lisa Ray Shamim Sarif collaboration. The world unseen is quite different from 'I can't think straight'
Where 'I can't think straight' is full of glamour and is reasonably easy to watch, 'The world unseen' tackles more serious and darker issues, like apatheid and the subjugation of women. Throw into this a lesbian love story in a country that believes being lesbian is depraved
